Parish of Lewisham = 13.6
Hamlet of Penge = 15.2
The Lewisham District = 13.9
By a curious coincidence the death rate and marriage
rate are the same, 1818 persons having died, and 1818
persons having been married in 1899.
The marriage rate in England and Wales for 1899 was
16.5 per 1000, which is higher than any rate since 1876.

The number of deaths from the 7 principal Zymotic Diseases was 303, as compared with 302 in the previous year. Scarlet Fever. 6 deaths, as compared with 9 deaths in

Scarlet Fever.
There were 683 notifications of this disease in 1899
as compared with 224 notifications in 1898. 265 of these
cases were removed to hospital. The cases were distributed
as follows:—

Blackheath 13
Park Hospital 17
Lewisham Workhouse 2
North Surrey District Schools 1
All Saints' Boys' Orphanage 1
The cases were of an exceedingly mild type, as will be
seen from the fact that there were only 6 deaths in 683 cases.
