Poor Law Relief.—The amount expended in outdoor relief in the
District, exclusive o! the Parish of Woodmansterne, was £2,373 15s. 3d. in
the year 1925.
II.-GENERAL PROVISION OF HEALTH SERVICES
IN THE AREA.
Hospitals Provided or Subsidised by the Local Authority or County
Council.—Hospitals for Tuberculosis and Small Pox are available for
the District under the schemes of the Surrey County Council. The
St. Anthony's Hospital, North Cheam, and the Croydon Borough Sanatorium,
Cheam, are situated in the District.
The Isolation Hospital for the District is the Cuddington Joint
Isolation Hospital, which provides accommodation for the Epsom Rural
District, and the Carshalton, Leatherhead, and Sutton Urban Districts, and
is situated in the parish of Cuddington, in the Epsom Rural District.
The Hospital consists of two Ward Blocks, each containing two wards
for 6 and 8 beds respectively (capacity 12,000 and l6,000 cubic feet),
a third Ward Block, containing two wards for 4 and 6 beds (capacity
8,000 and 12,000 cubic feet), and a fourth Block, containing four wards for
3 beds each (capacity 5,500 cubic feet); a Discharging Block, containing
2 beds; Administrative Block, Disinfector, Laundry, Mortuary, etc.
Ambulance Facilities.—Cases of infectious disease are removed to
the Isolation Hospital in the motor ambulance of the Joint Hospital Board.
There is no ambulance in the District for non-infectious cases, but the
motor ambulance stationed at Epsom is available.
