In the North Hainault Ward there were 10 infant deaths, exclusive
of those dying at the Girls' Village Homes, Barkingside.
4 died under 1 week old.
1 died at 7 days from congenital atresia of the duodenum.
1 died at 28 days from bronchitis.
1 died at 3 months from acute bronchitis.
1 died at 6 months from tubercular meningitis.
1 died at 5 months from broncho-pneumonia.
1 died at 7 months from acute bronchitis and bronchopneumonia.
The two latter children had both attended infant welfare
centres (one of these two babies attended a centre once
only six months before death).
In the Loxford Ward there were 8 infant deaths.
3 died shortly after birth.
1 died at 4 days from congenital heart disease.
1 died at 17 days from acute yellow atrophy liver.
1 died at 2 months from prematurity and inanition.
1 died at 7 months from marasmus.
1 died at 9 months from congenital malformation and
asthenia.
None of these children attended an infant welfare centre.
In the Clementswood Ward there were 6 infant deaths.
1 died shortly after birth.
1 died at 2 months from convulsions and whooping cough.
1 died at 3 months from congenital pyloric stenosis,
diarrhoea and vomiting.
1 died at 3 months from bronchitis and convulsions.
1 died at 7 months from acute gastritis, diarrhoea, and
exhaustion.
1 died at 8 months from capillary bronchitis and cardiac
failure.
The four latter children all attended infant welfare centres.
In the South Hainault Ward there were 18 infant deaths.
6 died under 1 week.
1 died at 9 days from spina bifida.
1 died at 14 days from congenital malformation of the
head.
1 died at 23 days from congenital intestinal defect.
1 died at 1 month from measles and marasmus.
1 died at 1 month from bronchitis.
1 died at 2 months from malnutrition and exhaustion.
1 died at 4 months from tubercular meningitis'.
1 died at 6 months from acute broncho-pneumonia and
measles.
1 died at 11 months from congenital heart lesion.
1 died at 3 months from broncho-pneumonia.
1 died at 4 months from acute gastro-enteritis.
1 died at 5 months from septic pneumonia.
The three latter children all attended infant welfare centres.
It will be seen that of the 62 infants who died under 1 year
of age, only 13 had attended infant welfare centres. 28, however,
of the deaths occurred in infants in the first month of life, and
these infants would naturally not have been brought to a centre,
