The above table only accounts for 1,341 of the 1,436 total
births registered and belonging to the district. The remaining 95
are included by the Registrar-General as belonging to Ilford, but
have not been allocated by him to the various wards.
41 births were registered in this district belonging to other
areas, and one birth was re-registered. These have not been included
in the foregoing figures.
It will be seen on comparing the infant mortality with last
year that there have been 4 less deaths of babies in Ilford, but the
number of births has decreased by 170. In consequence, the
infant mortality rate shows a slight increase over the previous
year.
An analysis of the figures in the foregoing table will show
that the infant mortality has risen in the Park, Seven Kings, North
Hainault, Loxford and South Hainault Wards. A statement as
to the ages at, and causes of, infant deaths in the various Wards
is given below :—
In the Cranbrook Ward there were 3 infant deaths.
1 died at 14 days from laryngismus stridulus and asphyxia.
1 died at 21 days from congenital atresia of the bile duct.
1 died at 7 weeks from gastro-enteritis and marasmus.
The latter child had attended an infant welfare centre.
In the Park Ward there were 10 infant deaths.
3 died under 1 week.
1 died at 10 days from inanition.
1 died at 7 weeks from broncho-pneumonia.
1 died at 3 months from marasmus.
1 died at 9 months from measles and broncho-pneumonia.
1 died at 10 months from measles and broncho-pneumonia.
1 died at 11 months from laryngismus stridulus.
1 died at 4 months from cholera infantum and convulsions.
The latter child had attended an infant welfare centre.
In the Seven Kings Ward there were 5 infant deaths.
1 died at 11 days from septic absorption due to scalds.
1 died at 3 months from bronchitis and exhaustion.
1 died at 4 months from peritonitis.
1 died at 4 months (one of twins) from acute gastro-enteritis
and exhaustion.
1 died at 3 months from bronchitis and broncho-pneumonia.
The two latter children had both attended infant welfare
centres.
