the number of deaths, as compared with 123 more births than
deaths in 1949.
The total number of births actually registered in the district
during the year amounted to 531, of which three were unnotified.
The percentage of births notified was therefore 99.43 as compared
with 100 in 1949.
MORTALITY
General Mortality and Death-rate.—The nett number of deaths
accredited to this district was 868. 48 more than in 1949.
This gives a crude death-rate of 11.70 per 1,000 of the population and a

Infant Mortality.—There were 20 deaths of infants under I
year of age, which gives an infantile death-rate of 23.25 per 1,000
births, as compared with 24 deaths and a rate of 25.42 in the
preceding year.
The corresponding rates for England and Wales and London
were 29.8 and 26.3 respectively.
