Food Poisoning.
Forty-four single cases were notified during 1953., but in only
seven cases were we able to identify the responsible organism.
The following is a copy of the annual return of food poisoning
notifications (corrected) furnished to the Ministry of Health:—

(3) Outbreaks of undiscovered cause:—

(4) Single cases:—
Agent identified 7 (Salmonella organisms).
Unknown cause 37.
Unless notification of food poisoning is reported within twentyfour
hours of onset, added difficulties arise in tracing the origin of
the food infected or the causative organism.
