year. A total weight of 1 ton 11 cwts. 0 qrs. 11½ lbs. of meat
was confiscated at the private slaughterhouses during the year.
The Requirements of the Public Health (Meat Regulations)
1924, continue to be observed by members of the meat trade
regarding slaughtering, storing, transport, and handling.
The supervision and inspection of meat in the slaughterhouses
within the Borough entails visits by the Sanitary
Inspectors at very irregular hours especially during the evenings
and week ends, to accommodate the requirements of the trade.
One of the principal features in this branch of Public
Health administration has been the large increase in the
establishment of restaurent and cafe premises which cater for
the needs of persons employed at the various factories in the
district. On many occasions, the Sanitary Inspectors have
assisted in the reconditioning of premises with a view to maintaining
a standard provided for by Section 72 of the Public
Health Act, 1925. Regular visits and inspections have been
made in cafe kitchens where the food is prepared, and if found
so necessary, improvements have been requested, and ultimately
effected.
