19 samples of milk from various sources were obtained and
submitted to the County Bacteriologist for bacteriological
examination. Generally speaking, the results have proved very
satisfactory. In one case only was an adverse report received,
when the Sanitary Inspector visited the premises and advised
with a view to the effecting of an improvement in the method of
production and distribution by the dealer concerned.

F(2). Slaughter of Animals Act, 1933.
The Slaughter of Animals Act, 1933, made the use of a
mechanically operated instrument in certain circumstances a
statutory obligation.
On 23rd May, 1938, the Council resolved that Section 1
of the Act should on, and from 1st June apply to sheep, and all
slaughtermen were thereupon acquainted with this provision.
It is therefore the practice now for sheep to be stunned by
a mechanically operated instrument of approved pattern.

During the year, no persons made application for a licence to slaughter or stun animals in compliance with the requirements of the above Act.

F(3). Inspection and Supervision of Meat and Other
Foods.
The inspection of food supplies again received the large
amount of attention which this important branch of the Public
Health Service demands, and 629 visits were made to food
premises including the 4 licensed slaughterhouses, during the
