Ages at Death. Of the total deaths, 24 6 per cent, were of
infants under 1 year of age, and 22 9 per
cent, of persons above the age of 65 years.
The infantile death-rate was for the various sub-districts as follows:—
Clapham | 142 per 1000 births. |
Putney | 123 ,, ,, |
Streatham | 109 ,, ,, |

Wandsworth | 156 ,, ,, |
The entire District | 127 ,, ,, |
The rate for the Metropolis in 1897 was 159. The
rate in the Wandsworth District was unusually low ; the
previous year it was 140.
