There has been a large increase in the number of preliminary
notices issued (901 as compared with 340 in 1903) and of statutory
notices (138 as against 73).
In only 4 cases has it been necessary to proceed by summons
before the Magistrates. One of these summonses was withdrawn
on payment of costs by the defendant, and in the other cases the
Magistrates granted the order asked for.
Water Supply.—Nine samples have been sent to Professor
Kenwood for analysis, and in each case a satisfactory report was
made.
Practically the whole of the Borough receives its water supply
from the New River, but a few isolated cases have been discovered
where the source of supply was a well sunk on the premises. Four
of these have been found during the year and closed.

The Clerk to the County Council (Sir Richard Nicholson) has kindly supplied me with the following information as to samples of food taken by the County Council Inspector in the Borough of Hornsey during the 12A months ended December 31st, 1904 : —
