The samples found to be adulterated are equal to 1.4 per cent.
of the total samples taken.

The percentage of adulteration to samples taken for the country generally in recent years has been:—

Per centage of adulteration.
18999.4
19008.8
19018.8
19028.7
19037.9

In Hornsey one sample was taken for every 290 of the population.
This is a larger proportion than is taken in the country generally,
but is about the same as the proportion taken in London.
The number of samples of milk taken was 172. The number
of registered milk sellers in the Borough is 66. There are, of
course, many persons who sell milk in Hornsey whose premises are
registered in other districts.
Inspections under the Shop Hours Acts and Seats for
Shop Assistants.—Mr. A. L. Bridge is the Inspector appointed
under these Acts. During the 12 months ended December 31st,
1904, about 300 cards containing an abstract of the provisions of
the Acts have been distributed. About 100 have been sent to
replace those lost or destroyed.
About 600 visits have been made under the Acts, but no
direct infringement of the provisions of the Statutes has been discovered.
The weekly half holiday has to a large extent been the
means of causing compliance with the Statutory requirements.
The limit of employment is 74 hours per week, including meal
hours. The legal week for the purposes of the Statutes is from
Saturday midnight to the following Saturday midnight.
A typical example of the hours allowed by the Statutes is from
8 a.m. on the first five days of the week, to 8 p.m. in the evening,
and from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the remaining day.
These hours are fairly long.
Two complaints have been received, but after enquiry were
found to be outside the scope of the Acts.
