Infectious and Other Diseases.
During the year 744 notifications of infectious disease were received
which when compared with 937 in 1963 shows a decrease of 193. This
decrease was, in the main, due to the number of measles cases reported,
552 as compared with 703 in 1963.
For the third year in succession no cases of poliomyelitis occurred in
the Borough.
There were no cases of smallpox during the year, but 30 indirect
contacts arrived from endemic areas. As they were not in possession of
valid international certificates of vaccination against smallpox they were
all kept under surveillance for 17 days.
