Deaths of Illegitimate Infants
The death rate amongst illegitimate children during 1964 was
30.77 per 1,000 illegitimate live births, as compared with 22.15 in
1963. The corresponding death rate of legitimate children in 1964 was
21.21, the ratio of mortality rate of illegitimate infants to that of
legitimate being 145 to 100. The corresponding figure for 1963 was
113 to 100.
Maternal Mortality.
There was one death from "diseases or accidents of child-birth"
during 1964, which is equivalent to a fatality rate of 0.44 per 1,000
births (live and still). This was due to septic abortion.
The rate for England and Wales in 1964 was 0.25.
