*Marriages and Marriage Rates.—During 1910 there were 1,700
marriages celebrated in the Borough of Hackney. The annual
marriage rate for persons married during this period is therefore
14.3 per 1,000 of the population.

The following table gives the number ot marriages, and the marriage rates lor the Borough of Hackney and London for the ten years 1900-1910:—

Births.—The number of births registered in the Borough of
Hackney during the year 1910 was 5,493 of which 2,761 were
males and 2,732 females. The total shows a decline of 209 compared
with the number of births registered in the Borough during
1909. The annual birth-rate for Hackney for the year 1910 is therefore
23.1 per 1,000 of the population. The birth-rate for all London
for the same period is 23*6 per 1,000 living. As the Notification of
Births Act, 1907, has been in operation in the Borough during the
