POPULATION.
The estimated population of the district is 12,250.
As usual, the method adopted for calculating this is by
multiplying the number of inhabited houses by the num-

ber of inhabitants per house at the last Government
Census. I believe the next Census will prove this calculation
to be rather below the actual figures, but I have
thought it better to err in the direction of under-estimating
the population rather than the opposite. I have,
therefore, allowed a considerable margin.
