Population.
The population for 1929 as estimated by the Registrar-General was
111,000. The main increment in life is from the excess of births over
deaths, immigration having little and emigration only a moderate effect
locally. After deducting from the total area of the Borough the space
which is non-effective for the purpose of calculating the density of the
population, such is found to be equivalent to 89 persons per acre. No
attempt has been made to allocate the population according to wards,
for an attempt to do so is founded upon an essentially uncertain premise
inasmuch as, not only is the total population an "estimated" one, but
there is no knowledge available as to the extent to which a movement
of the population between wards takes place.
Marriages.
During the year 921 marriages took place, equivalent to a rate of
8-3 persons marrying per 1,000 of the population. By courtesy of the

which these marriages were conducted:
