In the case of the 1,871 infants visited shortly after birth, it was
found that 1,699 infants were being breast-fed and 64 partly breast fed.
Only 108 were entirely hand-fed.
2. Welfare Centres.
(a) Infant Welfare. There were, during 1929, seven Centres
located in different parts of the Borough. One of these was a voluntary
centre although the medical and nursing staff was provided by the
Borough Council. At all the Centres, the work of those ladies who
assist in a voluntary capacity is greatly appreciated and very helpful.
