The birth-rate was 12.26 per 1,000, compared with 13.17
for 1930, and 14.68 the decennial average.
The rate for the whole of London during 1931 was 15-0 and
for England and Wales, 15.8.
185 illegitimate births took place in the Borough, but only
86 belonged to the Borough. On the other hand 114 illegitimate
births belonging to Wandsworth occurred outside the Borough,
making a corrected total of illegitimate births belonging to
Wandsworth of 200. 39 of these belonged to Clapham, 19 to
Putney, 35 to Balham, 41 to Streatham, 31 to Tooting, and 35
to Wandsworth.
The percentage of illegitimate births to total births was
4.6.
The illegitimate births in nursing homes have again been
allocated to the home addresses of the mothers.
