Diseases of the Ear and Defective Hearing.
Of the 1,494 children examined, 32 were found to be
suffering from diseases of the ear or defective hearing. 17
occurred amongst the boys (2.2 per cent.), and 15 instances
were found amongst the girls (2.0 per cent.), the whole
equalling 2.1 per cent., as compared with 2.6 per cent. for
1914. Of these 32 children, 3 suffered from obstruction, 5
from chronic discharge; from the ear—2 from the right, 2 from
the left—and in one instance a child suffered from double
otorrhoea. This is equal to .53 per cent., as compared with
.91 per cents for last year. In 14 cases the deafness was due
to adenoids, and in the remaining 10 instances to various
causes.
