tion under these Acts may be as complete as possible.
Apart from ordinary visits, the whole of the registered
premises are inspected at least once during the year.
My report on the annual inspection during the period
under review is as follows :—
Factory and Workshop Acts :—
" I have now completed my annual inspection of the premises
in the district, required under the Factory and Workshop
Acts, and beg to submit my report thereon. There is a
decrease in the number of factories and workshops, but
such slight variations as there are from year to year, are
chiefly due to the establishment or removal of small workshops.
"The contravention of the Acts are again not only small
in number, but also of minor importance, and are, therefore,
evidence of the strict supervision which is exercised by the
officers concerned. I might also again mention that the
majority of the responsible persons in connection with the
factories and workshops appear to exercise every precaution
to ensure that the requirements of the Acts are complied
with.
" During the inspection I have given special attention to
any contraventions which might arise from want of cleanliness,
over-crowding, absence of proper ventilation, defective
drainage and sanitary accommodation, and other nuisances,
and I am pleased to be able to record that, with the exception
of several instances in which it was necessary to administer
cautions, the sanitary state of the premises inspected is
satisfactory.
"I discovered one case of over-crowding; but, upon the
occupier's attention being called to the matter, immediate
steps were taken for the abatement of the same. Cards
