regard to the Parish of Saint James's, Westminster,
which I cannot but think will be interesting to the
members of the Vestry. I may perhaps state by
way of introduction that the population of London
whichin 1861 was 2,803,989,was in 1871 3,251,804,
shewing an increase in the interval, between 1861
and 1871, of 447,815 persons.
The following table kindly sent me by Mr. Clode
of the Census Office, affords a view of the number
of houses and population of the Parish at the last
census:—

census taken in 1851, and also in 1861:—
The population of the Parish of St. James's,
"Westminster, was in 1851 36,406
In the year 1861 it was 35,324
Shewing a decrease in the population of. 1,082
The population in 1871 was 33,587
Thus shewing a decrease of 1,737
The decrease in 20 years being 2,819
