The deaths in this Parish during the last quarter are not
excessive ; being 439, or less than the three preceding quarters
of the year, which are respectively 572; 458; 467; and 21 less
than the corresponding quarter of 1869. There must therefore
be a general improvement of public health; although the
epidemic of Scarlet Fever still lingers.
The Births are as usual in excess of Deaths.
There are 82 deaths from the Zymotic or spreading forms of
disease, half of which were from Scarlet Fever. This epidemic
of Scarlet Fever has now been prevalent throughout London for
more than 18 months. It has destroyed in this Parish the
following number of lives, principally of young children, in
each quarter—ending June 1869, 26; September, 1869, 34;
December 1869, 44 ; March 1870, 31 ; June, 1870, 30; September
1870, 43 ; December 1870, 42 ; total 250.
