streets during prohibited hours, and proceedings have upon
several occasions been taken by the Board.
In one case during the past year proceedings were taken
and evidence was called as to the offensive smell given off by
the collecting vans, but a small penalty of 10s., and 4s. costs
only was inflicted against t he owner, and the carman was let
off on payment of 4s. costs.
A summary of the Police Court proceedings taken as
mentioned in the foregoing paragraphs of this report will be
found in the appendix.
GAS EXAMINATION.
The Board received during the year seven reports from
the Examiner, Dr. Samuel Rideal, from which it appeared
that the gas supplied by the Crystal Palace District Gas
Company was within the statutory limits as to illuminating
power and purity.
THE ANNUAL INSPECTION.
The Board made their usual Annual Inspection of the
District on the 28th June, when they viewed the various
depots, and the works and improvements effected in the
previous year, and the sites of the new works provided for
in the current year's Estimates; the various New Streets
then recently paved and formed, and other works in contemplation.

The houses in the following streets were renumbered during the year:—
