Bakehouses.
The bakehouses have been regularly inspected during
the year. Numerous notices have been served on owners or
occupiers of premises where some amendment or improvement
was required on Sanitary grounds.
Cowhouses and Slaughterhouses.
These premises have also been regularly inspected.
Sale of Food and Drugs Acts.
During the year 101 samples were analysed, and 12
were found adulterated or reduced in quality. Summonses
were applied for and granted in 10 cases, and fines amounting
to £21 2s. Od. were inflicted, and costs, amounting to
£4 2s. 0d., were recovered from 6 of the defendants. In
the remaining 4 cases two of the summonses were withdrawn
as the Police had failed to serve the same within the proper
time, and two were withdrawn, as the bottles containing the
samples retained by the Inspector burst and the cases therefore
failed.
Section 9 of the Sale of Food and Drugs Act, 1899,
enacts that—
Every person who, himself, or by his servant, in any highway,
or place of public resort, sells milk or cream from a vehicle,
or from a can, or other receptacle, shall have conspicuously
inscribed on the vehicle, or receptacle, his name and address,
and in default shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine
not exceeding two pounds.
Proceedings under this section were taken by the Board in
two cases. In one case the defendant was convicted and fined
5s., and 2s. costs of summons, and in the other the defendant
was fined 10s. with 2s. costs.
Fish Offal.
Serious complaints have at different times been made of
nuisances caused by the conveyance of fish offal through the
