per annum in the South Metropolitan Company's District.
COLLECTION OF DUST.
The Board entered into a contract with Messrs. Thos. Tilling,
Ltd., of High Street, Peckham, for the removal of dust and house
refuse in Blackheath, Lewisham, and Brockley, at 4s. 5d. per horse
and harness per day.

The dust was collected by men and boys in the employ of the Board, 10,932 loads of dust were collected during the

year, and thefollowing table shows how the same were disposed of:—

There were 53 loads of trade refuse removed and disposed of
during the year.
NEW WORKS.
In High Street, Lewisham, between Rennell-street and the
new Salisbury Hotel, the tar-paving was taken up and artificial
stone laid in lieu thereof: 098 superficial yards of hard York artificial
non-slip stone and 265 superficial yards of Elliott's artificial
stone were laid in carrying out this work. Imperial artificial stone
was laid in High-street, between Morley-road and Limes-grove
(315 superficial yards); at Rushey-green, between Willow-walk
and Holbeach-road (600 superficial yards); and in front of the
Coroner's Court, Ladywell-road (123 superficial yards); making a
total of 1,038 superficial yards of Imperial artificial stone.
The skidding table in Loampit-hill was extended a distance
of 178 feet. In carrying out this work 271 superficial yards of
4-in. by 6-in. granite pitching and 178 feet run of 12-in. by 6-in.
flat tram stones were laid.
