The South Metropolitan Gas Company also supply gas to one
lamp at the White Hart urinal, which is paid for jointly by the
Board and Messrs. Whitbread.
One lamp in Adelaide Road, and one in Lewisham Road, were
discontinued, special lamps being erected in substitution for them.
In the Parish of Lewisham 45 lamps were removed, and 2
in the Hamlet of Penge.
The Crystal Palace District Gas Company supply gas to 873
ordinary lamps and 26 special lamps in the Hamlet of Penge.
One lamp was discontinued in Beckenham Road.
Several incandescent burners were fixed in public lamps by
way of experiment, but so far I cannot report in favour of this
system for Street Lighting, on account of the expense of replacing
the mantles, which have a very short life in public lamps, being
exposed more or less to the weather, and also to severe vibration
from the traffic.

New lamps were erected in the following places:—
