The rainfall for the year ending Lady-day, 1895, was 21.84
inches with 158 wet days; this shows a decrease of 1.95 inches
of rainfall and 19 fewer wet days for last year.
There was no snow during the year, and the winter was exceptionally
mild, consequently very little grit and ashes were
used on the roads.
ROAD WATERING.
The Board's horses were employed in the Blackheath and
Lewisham Division for road watering purposes, and when additional
horses were required they were supplied by Mr. W. Joy, at
8s. 9d. at Blackheath, and 8s. 6d. per horse, harness and driver in
Lewisham.
The whole of the horses in the Sydenham and Forest Hill
division were supplied by Mr. W. Stimpson at 8s. per horse,
harness and driver per day.
Mr. R. Winnifrith supplied the horses, in Penge, at 7s. 6d.
per horse, per day, including harness and driver.
All the vans and carts are the property of the Board.

STREET LIGHTING.
In the Parish of Lewisham the gas for Lighting the Street
Lamps is supplied by the South Metropolitan and Crystal Palace
District Gas Companies, and in the Hamlet of Penge by the
Crystal Palace District Gas Company. The Companies also light,
extinguish, clean, paint and maintain the lanterns and columns;
the former at £3 3s. 9d., and the latter Company at £3 2s. 10d.
per lamp per annum.
There are 868 ordinary and 23 special lamps supplied by the
South Metropolitan Gas Company, and 921 ordinary and 21 special
lamps supplied by the Crystal Palace District Gas Company in
the Parish of Lewisham.
