A great many notices have been served by the Inspectors of
Nuisances to abate nuisances, supply dust-bins, compel water
supply, and the removal of pigs.
I am at present engaged in carefully cleaning out the large
sewers of the Board. It is a very expensive process, cleaning the
sewers, from deposits of road sand or drift. I calculate it must
cost about £1 for every cubic yard removed from the sewers.
The work is done by the Board's labourers. I am exeedingly
anxious to see a good system of ventilation carried out with

house-drains cannot be ventilated by the public sewers. Every
sewer and every drain needs its own separate and distinct ventilation.
