Gentlemen,
In accordance with the provisions of the 43rd Section of
the Metropolis Local Management Act, 25 and 26 Victoria,
chap. 102, it again becomes my duty to present to you a
report of the sanitary state of the Lewisham District during
the 52 weeks of the year 1873.
In Table I. will be found the estimated population to
the middle of the year 1873, the number of inhabited houses
in the District, with the births, deaths, and marriages which
have taken place during the year.
In Table II., the annual rate of mortality per 1000
living, the death rates amongst children, and the percentage
of deaths in public institutions for the last 11 years.
In Table III., the deaths registered at several groups of
ages, from different causes, during the year 1873.
In Table IV., the mortality from certain classes of
diseases, and the proportion to population and to 1000 deaths
in 1873.
In Table V., the number of deaths in the 10 years, 1863
to 1872, from the seven principal zymotic diseases, and the
number in 1873.
In Table VI., the reports of the Inspectors of Nuisances
relative to the sanitary work completed in the year.
In Table VII., the number of births and deaths which
have occurred in the different Registrar's Sub-districts, in
Lewisham Parish, and the Hamlet of Penge (together com-
