Of the sum thus shown to have been received during the year,
it will be seen that only £31,558 has been raised by rates, and
notwithstanding the unprecedentedly large expenditure, the
rates by no means press heavily upon the inhabitants.
This is demonstrated by the following Table, showing the
amount in the pound of the rates made in Lewisham and Penge
respectively for the past three years, for the several purposes
within the jurisdiction of this Board, and also for Poor Law
purposes:—
