Table I X., which record* the nature of the diseases from
which the mortality of the year 1872 has taken place, shows
the total number of deaths in the district to have been 788,
or 27 less than that of the previous year. This includes the
deaths of these who have died in public institutions, viz., the
Union Workhouse, the District Hospital, and Charitable
Institutions in Lewisham Village; and the North Surrey
District School, Royal Naval Asylura, and Waterman's
Asylum in the Hamlet of Penge.
Table VII. gives the number of births and deaths which
have taken place in the different Registrar's sub-districts in
the Parish of Lewisham and Penge Hamlet, together comprising
the Lewisham District, with the mortality of the
several public institutions.
