" 2. That the assessment of tho Metropolitan Parishes in
" the County of Kent greatly exceeds one fourth of the
" assessment of tho entire County, and that thus the
" Metropolitan Parishes—of which Lewisham is the
" largest and most wealthy—hare for many years eon"
tributed, and will continue to contribute a very large
" proportion of the annual cost of repoiriug and improving
County Bridge*, of which no portion (except in
" ordinary repairs) has been expended in the Parish of
" lewisham within tho memory of man.
" Your Memorialists therefore request the Court of
" General Session of tho Peace to exercise with
" respect to the Lewisham Bridge, the powers
" specially rested in them for improving and
" rebuilding County Bridges, the inadequacy
" and inconvenicncy of which shall have been
11 established by the presentment of a Grand
" Jury of tho County.
" And that the Court will order the widening
" and improving or the rebuilding of the Bridge,
" and defray the cost of the snmo out of the
" County Bate.
" The Common Seal of the Board was hereunto
" affixed by Order made on the 18th of
" October, 1871, in the presence of
" Saml. Edwards.
" Clerk to the Hoard."
