The degree and kind of adulteration and the magisterial decisions
given during the year, with the penalties inflicted, are briefly set
forth in Table IV. For the particulars relative to the proceedings
taken by the Vestry, I am indebted to Mr. W. J. H. Denselow, the
Clerk of the Vestry.

The samples of creosote oil, received from the Surveyor to the
Vestry, were reported to be of satisfactory quality, but the sample of
white lead was found to contain an admixture of sulphate of barium'.
Remarks.
As on the occasion of my report for the year ended on March
31st, 1892, I avail myself of the occasion to name some articles of
food and drugs, samples of which might well be submitted to analysis
from time to time. Among articles of food, bread, cheese, condensed
milk, flour, oatmeal, lard, yeast, confectionery, tinned meats, meat
extracts, pickles, sauces, olive oil, mustard, preserves, soda water,
beer, rum and brandy; and among drugs, cream of tartar, precipitated
sulphur, syrup of squill, syrup of poppies, syrup of senna, rhubarb,
glycerine, paregoric, spirit of nitrous ether, compound liquorice powder,
antimonial wine, wine of ipecacuanha, saffron, sal volatile, wine
of quinine, tincture of quinine, ammoniated tincture of quinine, citrate
of iron and quinine, mercury with chalk, Fowler's solution, fluid
magnesia, solution of perchloride of iron and rectified spirit, occur to
me as articles which might undergo investigation. From the
