trade refuse
I have again to call the attention of the Vestry to the charge of
2s 6d a load for the removal of trade refuse This is not at all
sufficient, as the men receive 1s 9d a load, the cost of barging is
2s 3d, and the cost of carting is about 3s a load, making the total
cost 7s per load
street cleansing
The Vestry employ for this work 62 scavengers, 42 horses and
carts, 6 sweeping machines, 8 road scrapers, 12 orderly hand-carts
5 sanding machines, and 47 slop shoot carts, and 2 gulley carts
I beg again to call attention to the great inconvenience caused
by the omnibus companies using the public streets much as a stable
yard I have seen as many as eight pairs of horses at a time about
Jerdan Place, either just taken out of the omnibuses or waiting to be
attached
