STREET CLEANSING.
The gang of sweepers in the employ of the Vestry during the
year numbered 37.
The Vestry now posseses two sanding machines, one purchased
in 1886 and one in October, 1887, and three street sweepers; now
that the length of the roads and the wood paving is extending so
rapidly the Vestry would find it economical to possess six sweepers
and at least two scraping machines. Four new slop carts were ordered
in September last.
DUST.
In July, 1886, under the superintendence of the Cartage Committee,
I took up the matter of dust collecting, and divided the Parish into
twelve districts.
In the following year the control of this matter was entirely removed
from the Cartage Committee to the Sanitary Committee, and passed
entirely out of my hands.
The complaints in 1887-8 were as follows:—
