number of deaths registered as from these diseases was 133, a mortality
of 31.5 per cent.; that is, a death rate of one per thousand
on the total population at all ages, or as 97 of the deaths were
amongst young children, a rate of 0.0 per thousand on the estimated
population of young children living.
The general Metropolitan rate was 0.32 per thousand living at
all ages, and was almost identical with the rate of the preceding
year.
WHOOPING COUGH.
(Decennial average 122.5).
Whooping cough caused 113 deaths, double the number in the
preceding year; all the deaths except two were amongst children
aged less than five years, a Mortality on the estimated. population
of young children of 5.8 per thousand living.
MEASLES.
(Decennial average 104.2).
Measles Caused 106 deaths, all except six being amongst young
children, and giving a mortality of 5.2 per thousand on the
estimated population of young children.
NOTIFICATION OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES ACTS,
1889.
A total of 1204 eases of infectious diseases has been reported
during the year under this Art by the various Medical Gentlemen
practising in the neighbourhood.
