The area of Bethnal Green is 755 acres; of which about 17 are
covered with water. The number of inhabited houses is 18,493.
This gives a ratio of 7.05 persons to each house and 172 to each
acre.
The following table, which has been prepared from the rate
books, shews the distribution of the houses, workshops and
factories in the several wards of the Parish.

DEATHS.
The number of deaths registered during the year was 2992
against 2797 last year, an increase of 195 ; this number includes
145 strangers who, though residents of other Metropolitan
Districts, came for treatment and died in Hospital in Bethnal
Green ; they are therefore excluded. On the other hand, I have
received information from the General Register Office of the deaths
