POPULATION.
The Registrar-General's estimate of the civilian population of
Hackney in 1940 is 168,290.
MARRIAGES AND MARRIAGE-RATE.
During 1940 there were 2,628 marriages solemnised in the
Borough of Hackney. The rate for persons married during this
period is therefore 31.2 per 1,000 of the population.
BIRTHS AND BIRTH-RATE.
Two sets of figures have been supplied by the Registrar-General
as to the births allocated to the Borough. One set of figures is to
be used in calculating the birth-rate and the other for calculating
infant and maternal mortality rates. The object of this is to allow
for the temporary movement of residents owing to war conditions.
