The Assistant Medical Officers made 1,375 physical examinations
of Civil Defence personnel in 1940. I cannot express too
highly my thanks for the assistance given to me by these medical
officers in the various duties of my office.
More than 200 Circulars were issued in 1940 by the Ministry
of Health, Ministry of Home Security and London Regional Headquarters
on subjects connected with the casualty services.
Finally, I have again to state my profound conviction that the
staff of the Public Health Department have earned the gratitude of
the Council and of the citizens of the Borough for their devotion to
duty and the able manner in which that duty has been performed.
I must also thank the Council and Committees of the Council for the
help the Department has received during the past year.
