Disinfection.
The collection and distribution of articles, together with the process
of disinfection at the station, have been carried out in a satisfactory
manner during the year. The stripping and cleansing of rooms after
infectious disease, which have occupied the services of two disinfectors,
have had, I believe, a very beneficial effect in preventing the spread of
the disease.
Houses Let in Lodgings.
The number of houses on the register at the end of 1900 was 27.
Various lists of houses deemed suitable to be placed on the register,
chiefly on account of the difficulty of keeping them in a fair state of
repair, have been rejected from time to time. The result has been that
the number on the register is the same as in the report for 1899. All
this difficulty will no doubt be removed by the new Borough Council.
Bakehouses
The total number of existing bakehouses is 70. On inspections made
during the year they were all found to be in a clean and satisfactory
state. In nearly all the bakehouses there are an impermeable floor, walls
rendered in cement to 4ft. 6in. from the floor, and the troughs on casters.
Slaughterhouses and Cowhouses.
Four cowhouses and seven slaughterhouses were inspected, and
found to be in a clean and good sanitary state.
