SANITARY INSPECTION.
The total number of visits of inspection paid by your Inspectors during the
year was 35,348.
Of these, 13,013 were made on vessels from "foreign" ports, 3,917 on vessels
arriving "coastwise"; 16,881 referred to barges and other vessels engaged
in other than sea-going trade, including canal boats, while 1,537 inspections
were of premises on shore within the area of the Docks.
The cleansing of the crew's quarters was ordered in 2,960 cases.
The nationalities of the vessels inspected—in order of importance—were:
British, 81 per cent.; Swedish and Norwegian, 4 per cent,; German, 3 per
cent.; Dutch and Belgian, 1 per cent. respectively, and various others in
lesser proportion.
