The high figure shown for August recorded at Manor Park was chiefly due to a storm which caused widespread flooding and numerous residents sought the advice of the department concerning the flooding of their houses.

Smoke Control Areas.
In 1959 the Council decided to proceed with making Smoke Control
Orders which would apply to the whole of the Borough at the end of twelve
years. Thirteen Smoke Control Areas have been planned and subject to the
availability of staff it is the Council's intention to deal with three
areas before the end of 1963, as follows:
(1) 1961 Area No.1 . Coombe Hill area bounded by Kingston Hill, Kingston
Vale, Beverley Brook, Coombe Hill Road, Coombe Lane and Warren Road.
(2) 1 962 Area No-2. Maiden Golf Course area bounded by Coombe Hill Road,
Beverley Brook, Main Railway Line, Coombe Road and Traps Lane.
(3) 1965 Area No.5. Maiden Hill area bounded by Main Railway Line
Beverley Brook, Maiden Way and Maiden Road.
A start was made in September on surveying No.1. Smoke Control
Area, but little progress could be made by the end of the year due to
the staffing situation. 619 visits were made.
