Fitness of Houses.—The majority of the cottages are of fair
standard, but a considerable number of the older cottages require
frequent inspection, and certain groups of them, mainly old wooden
cottages, are in such a structural condition that they cannot be made
fit at a reasonable expenditure. All the cottages of the worse type
have been inspected recently, and works of repair and cleansing have
been carried out.
The Council served notice under the Housing Act with respect to
four cottages which had frequently come to their attention on account
of recurrence of nuisance due to the failure of the owner to carry out
the work of repair in an adequate manner, and the defects were then
satisfactorily remedied.
