Included in the first class were 130 male gardeners and 80 male
agricultural labourers; and, among those engaged in personal service,
421 female domestic servants.
Vital Statistics.—The births registered in the District during the
year numbered 86. The nett births belonging to the District were 94,
giving a birth-rate of 15.6 per thousand of the estimated population.
The rate for England and Wales for 1925 was 18.3.
The deaths registered in the District during the year numbered
52, of which 11 occurred in the Cottage Hospital; 4 of the deaths were
transferred to other districts, and 21 persons belonging to Leatherhead
died elsewhere, giving 69 nett deaths, and a death-rate of 11.5 per
1,000 of the estimated population. A correction for the age and sexdistribution
of the population of the District would give a rate of
10.8 for comparison with that of other districts. The rate for England
and Wales for 1925 was 12.2.
There were 5 deaths among infants under one year of age, giving
a mortality rate of 53 per 1,000 births. The rate for England and
Wales for 1925 was 75.
As in the preceding year, there were no deaths among children
between the ages of one and five years.
