VITAL STATISTICS.
During the year 944 live births were registered as belonging
to this district, of which 449 were females and 495 were males,
as compared with 998 last year.
The live birth rate for the year was equal to 14.3 per 1,000
of population, as against 15.4 per 1,000 last year, the crude birth
rate being 14.8 per 1,000.
The birth rate for England and Wales was 14.9 per 1,000,
as against 14.8 per 1,000 last year.
Illegitimate Births
The number of births registered as being illegitimate was 26,
as compared with 22 last year.
The illegitimate rate was equal to 2.9 per cent, of the total
births, as against 3 per cent, in 1936.
