VITAL STATISTICS.
During the year 969 live births were registered as belonging to
this district, of which 472 were females and 497 were males, as
compared with 948 last year.
The live birth rate for the year was equal to 15.6 per 1,000 of
population, as against 15.6 per 1,000 last year, the crude birth rate
being 15.9 per 1,000.
The birth rate for England and Wales was 14.7 per 1,000, as
against 14.8 per 1,000 last year.
Illegitimate Births.
The number of births registered as being illegitimate was 21,
as compared with 34 last year.
The illegitimate rate was equal to 2.1 per cent. of the total
births, as against 2.5 per cent. in 1934.
