Forty-five per cent. of the mothers of children born during the
year attended the ante-natal clinics (including Woodlands Maternity
Home clinic), as compared with 40 per cent. last year.
Post-natal Clinic.
A post-natal clinic is now held at the Town Hall on the fourth
Tuesday of each month. The first session was held on November 26,
1935, the number of mothers attending being three.
Home Helps.
In order that mothers may be relieved of the worry of housekeeping
during confinement and the lying-in period, the Council
have a panel of women who will act as Home Helps during this
period.
The following rules have been laid down:—
1. That every care will be taken in the selection of home
helps as far as character is concerned, but the
Council cannot accept responsibility for the conduct
of the home help.
2. That the time of employment be not more than 48 hours
per week.
3. That no nursing duties be undertaken by the home
help.
4. That the duties consist of general home management,
including cooking, the care of children and any
necessary washing.
5. Patients are not expected to provide meals for the home
help (but probably some arrangement could be made
for her to cook her own food).
The home help is paid 25s. per week, the patient paying a
proportion according to the following scale:—

Over four children in family 7s. 6d. 12s. 6d.
