PUERPERAL FEVER AND PUERPERAL PYREXIA.
The Council provides consultants and arranges for pathological or
bacteriological examinations in cases of puerperal fever or pyrexia at the
request of the medical practitioner in attendance.
A Special Consultant's Fee was paid in one case.
Hospital treatment is also arranged for in suitable cases.
The following table shows the final result of the cases on the register
at the end of the year:—

In addition to the above notified cases, one maternal death in the
City of London Hospital was stated as Puerperal Sepsis following Caesarian
Section.
Of the 6 cases notified attended by midwives, one occurred after the
midwife had ceased to attend, and for which there was no medical aid.
