MATERNAL MORTALITY.
A Special Report is forwarded to the Ministry of each Maternal
Death, with the available history. This report is based on the result
of the enquiries made of every nurse, midwife, or doctor who has been
engaged in attendance upon or treatment of the mother.
11 deaths were so reported.
Maternal Deaths .—There were 5 deaths from Sepsis. 6 deaths were
due to other Puerperal Causes than Sepsis. One of these was notified
as Puerperal Pyrexia and 5 were not.
The cause of death of the 1 case notified as Puerperal Pyrexia was
stated as a Pulmonary Embolism (see Table Puerperal Pyrexia).
1 case was that of a mother suffering from ante partum haemorrhage
removed to hospital, who died undelivered.
1 case died at home, 3 weeks after the birth, from pneumonia and
post partum haemorrhage.
