Fewer visits and revisits were paid, as compared with last
year, which is attributable to the frequent changes in the Health
Visiting staff during 1917.
The percentage of children who are receiving mother's milk
has declined from 88 to 85. The number of women employed
during pregnancy has slightly increased, the percentage being 18 7
as compared with 16 last year.
Maternity and Child Welfare Centres.
The Baby Clinics are proving successful, but very few persons
have, as yet, taken advantage of the Maternity consultations. The
children seen numbered 332 and their attendances at the centres
were 1312.
Infant Deaths.
The total number of infant deaths during 1917 was 86, giving
an Infant Mortality rate of 117 per 1,000 births. This figure is
very much higher than that of 1916, which was 77 3 per 1,000
